The most damaging form of tornado is called a storm super cell. Super cells are large and powerful that occur in thunderstorms. As a tornado approaches you would see a large black cloud  and a cone descending to the ground. When you are near a tornado you will hear a freight train noise, this is because tornadoes sound like freight trains. You would also hear creaking noises and breaking glasses.
